Lemurian origin
The idea of sunken colony in the pacific has fascinated a wide variety or people for centuries and been given many names including Lemuria, the Land of Mu, and Kumari Kandam. Lemuria is not limited to be in the Pacific ocean, some people also believe that it located the Indian ocean and can also be as big as half of the earth. The name Lemuria has been credited by a British zoologist Phillip Sclater when he noticed similarities in the lemurs in the island of Madagascar, India and Australia. Sclater noticed that lemurs cannot swim so thought there needed to be a land bridge that connected the three land forms. The theory of a land bridge has been completely disregarded by most of the scientific community after the theory of plate tectonics was widely accepted by the scientific community. In the theory of plate tectonics it explains that the landforms were all once connected then they broke away millions of years ago, and moved to their present locations.
Other explanations for a land bridge in the Pacific ocean are:
Other explanations for a land bridge in the Pacific ocean are:
- That the vegetation in Madagascar, India and Australia is very similar and also is usually land locked and vegetation needed fresh water.
- That the cultures in the three areas are very similar so they needed to be connected.
- The coral reefs that exist in the Arabian sea show part of the ancient lands.
- There was a slab of granite located underneath the tectonic plate in the Pacific.
- It was created the same way the Hawaiian islands were by volcanic activity just on a much larger scale.
Mu and Kumari Kandam
Even though the Land of Mu and Kumara Kandam are just different names for a land bridge in the Indian or Pacific ocean they have different origins and ideas.
The Land of MU is believed to be a island roughly the size of Australia in the Indian ocean. James Churchward popularized the idea of Mu when he published his book The Lost Continent of Mu: Motherland of Man. Churchward got the idea after befriending a priest in India who taught him the Naga-Maya language. He then used this information to read ancient tablets in which he claims that they were about the birthplace of man kind.
Kumari Kandam is the name of a the sunken colony referred to in the ancient Tamili Matsya Purana. This land was divided into 49 territories, which seven coconut territories. seven Madurai territories, seven old sandy territories, seven new sandy territories, seven mountain territories, seven eastern coastal territories, and seven dwarf-palm territories.

Suggested evidence
Many people that believe in Lemuria, point to a slab of granite embedded into rocks of the oceanic crust as proof that Lemuria exists because granite is a rock typical of continental crust. The believers point to this as evidence while studies have shown that continents can’t simply sink because granite it less dense then water. Also many point to the reasons that a land bridge should exist as proof that an actual land bridge did exist.
Professor Mackenzie Keith, a geology professor, had a hypothesis that in order for oceanic islands to sink the surrounding area would have to have low heat flow and high seismic wave velocities that indicates mantle flow. Lemuria followers believe this to indicate Lemuria existed because of a lower heat flow around the Hawaiian islands. Professor Keith made this hypothesis in the 1970's when there was not very accurate tools to measure this information.
Followers also believe that that psychic readings of Edgar Cayce, a psychic who allegedly possessed the ability to answer questions on various subjects and had visions of the world ending, about the existence of Lemuria as proof that Lemuria was a continent. Cayce gave three readings about a lost continent in the Pacific ocean, he even called the land Lemuria.

Lemurian society and people
To some Lemuria is considered to be a utopian society with higher evolved humans that helped shape cultures around the world. It has been considered that the birthplace of mankind was located in southeast Asia and because they could not find it in any current day land, so it has to be in the sunken colony of Lemuria. It is also believed to be the birth place of modern language and that the Chinese language is based almost completely of off the ancient Lemurian people. Some people point to Lemuria as the explanation for the Easter island heads. Stating that early humans would not have been able construct these heads and it was the work of a highly developed civilization.
Another group of people believe that the Lemurians were slaves to Tahitians. The great feats that the Mu population was clamed to have accomplish were just because the Tahitian overlords demanded that the Mu people, complete them in a short time period. The main social unit in Lemuria was family and the leaders were the elders of the village who handled all disputes within the family, and also any problems that family members had. Their descendants are the Hawaiians.
Others believe that Philippians are instead the modern day Lemurians. They say because the Phillippians have strong spiritual values and have highly developed telepathic powers, traits attributed to Lemurians which had brown color of skin like people of the Philippians. So people have come to the conclusion that Indonesians, Malaysians and Australians all came from Lemuria
Helena Blavatsky wrote books on Lemuria claiming that they were the third root to humans and were about 7 feet tall, sexually hermaphroditic, egg-laying, mentally undeveloped and spiritually pure early forms of humans now a days. Then the next root were the people of Atlantis and present day humans are the fifth root.
Some believe Lemuria was inhabited by reptilian monsters with a third eye at the back of their head. Lemurian man are credited with the third eye which gave them psychic vision. His head slopes backwards and upwards in a weird way. Over time the third eye stopped working and retreated inwards and disappearing altogether as a organ. Early Lemurian ancestors are described as having been gigantic in height and possessed tremendous power, attaining the height of 60 feet. and later Lemurians averaged from 12 to 15 feet.

Some believe that Snake People were descendants of the Lemurians, in particular, descendants of the original people that kept records of Lemuria. When the Lemurians emerged from underground, the Lemurians lived on higher ground.
The Lemurians were thought to be more spiritual or mystical and had very high telepathic abilities. They could communicate with one another over long distances telepathically. Others suppose that they are four armed creatures that lived alongside of dinosaurs. The main characteristic of the people of Lemuria was the high development of their inner mind. Lemuria is depicted as having had an ideal civilization but, when there became overwhelming interest in science and, as technology assumed a leading role in their lives it led to a focus on materialism. |
The Destruction of Lemuria.
Like the rest of Lemuria many people have very different ideas on what happened to the great civilization. The most popular of the idea is that a great flood came along and destroyed the ancient civilization. Some believe that this great flood is the one that is described in the bible. Others believed that the cause of the flood was because of the rising Atlantean continuant (Atlantis). The most popular idea is that the Lemurian people became to materialistic and mother earth decided to destroy Lemuria. Another idea are is because of misuse of the Lemurians powers as while as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions Lemuria began to sink slowly compared to Atlantis where it sank suddenly.
Some believe that the Lemurian priests had seen these tragic events happening so they were able to escape and migrate to other nearby land masses. Some believe that Lemurians had escaped to the underground world to save themselves from the flood. When they came back from underneath the ground the world had changed and most of lemuria was destroyed. Some believe that the survivors then moved to Atlantis. This contradicts what many believe that they two continents were separated by centuries.
Others believe that the survivors are still currently living underneath on Mount Shasta in northern California and claim that the Lemurians lived in
a complex series of tunnels beneath the mountain, after the destruction of the Continent.

Lemuria in pop- culture
There are websites and companies out there that are trying to make a profit out of the belief that Lemurian crystals had healing properties, vibrational frequency, and spiritual properties. The website advertises the crystals as having wisdom and understanding. The crystals are supposed to hold information and knowledge and are called Lemurian crystals because the crystals are located where the Lemurians supposedly rose from the underground.
Others believe that the souls of the Lemurian people that perished underground are trapped in the crystals which give them their spiritual healing powers and wisdom.
There have been many books written about lemuria all with vast differences. The most notable authors are Helena Blavatsky, who wrote about the human roots, William Elliot who created maps of the lost city , and James Bramwell, who described the Lemurians as the ancestors of Atlantis.
